The Five Dimensions:
Lifelong Learning,
Social Responsibility,
Intercultural Understanding,
Career Development,
Leadership.
Social Responsibility
I feel compassion for my fellow man. When committing an act of kindness,
I feel no motivation other than it is simply the right thing to do. This is more than enough for me.
Lifelong Learning
My goals tend to occur to me rather late in the game. I accidentally found myself in
college four years ago. While in highschool, I had the vague idea that I wanted to go to college, but no clear path
on which to get there. A well meaning friend, with the help of her mother, helped me fill out the paperwork for financial
aid and I slid in, shortly before the admissions deadline, into Valdosta State University. It had been known as "the
armpit of the South" to the students at Camden County High School. To me, it meant escape. College offered me
an escape from the sort of life my parents have lived. A life where one lives simply from paycheck to paycheck.
A life tenuously dependent on health without medical insurance. A life with no room for ambition, advancement or hope.
Within the first two years, my goals changed from running away to moving toward something
specific. I am close to getting my B.A. in English Literature, creative writing/professional writing.
I am currently working as a private tutor for ages 14 and under. I teach English
composition, creative writing and grammer to children who are homeschooled and whose parents want to supplement
their education. I love it, for now, but this is not what I ultimately want to do.
I want a permanent position at a publication. I want to write for a living, to live
by my pen. I want to be able to express myself effectively enough for others to experience
the emotions I aim to describe. My family calls me an idealist. Others, a purist. I simply want to
do something I enjoy.
There was never any other choice for me really, although i wavered, for a moment, thinking
of going into social work, but never changed my major. My education in how to effectively communicate with others
will never end, but I will take pride in my milestones.
Intercultural Understanding
I have wanted to learn the language of Spanish since I was in high
school. At the time, I was employed at a number of establishments, dealing primarily in customer service. This
included working in a grocery and slaving my way through days in restaurants for minimum wage. The language that I came
into contact with the most in these environs was Spanish. The most frustrating situation in which
to be is the one where you are unable to communicate with others. I was interested in learning a language that
I was certain would come in handy. America is a veritable melting pot, but the Hispanic
community makes up a large, and ever growing, portion of our population. I am confident that Spanish influence
on American culture will continue to increase. I want to be prepared for that.

Career Development
I think that the biggest step I have taken in the direction of career development is the fact
that I am now certain on the direction in which I would like to go. It has been easy for me to determine what my interests
are. However, I have had a great deal of trouble trying to figure out how I can incorporate interests that have always
been percieved as a useless hobby, into a career. The force is with me.
Leadership
I do not have a great deal of official experience with leadership. i do, however,
possess the qualities that are essential to success in that area.
